TRIBUNE: "FAILURE TO PROCESS WAR CRIMES IN THE AREA OF GORAŽDA"

On May 4, 2022, a forum was held in Goražde, organized by the Government of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton and the Ministry of Veteran Affairs of the BPK: "Non-prosecution of war crimes in the area of Goražde". The forum was held as part of the manifestation: "Days of Resistance 1992-2022", which is organized on the occasion of the beginning of the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the firing of the first missile at Goražde on May 4, 1992. The reason for holding the forum is the fact that no one was held accountable for numerous crimes committed in Goražde during the 1992-1995 siege. years. Edina Rešidović, a recognized expert in the field of criminal law, and especially in proceedings related to the application of international war and humanitarian law, Kasim Brdar, president of the "Istina za Goražde" Foundation, and others spoke at the forum. Muamer Džananović, research associate of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo.

Aida Obuća, Prime Minister of BPK, and Edin Aganović, Minister of Veteran Affairs of BPK, addressed the gathering in their opening address.

"Until today, no one has been held accountable for the deliberate execution of crimes against several tens of thousands of civilians who, during the aggression, practically survived in a kind of "concentration camp" due to the imposed conditions of the siege. The civilian population lived in a complete environment in a constant struggle for biological survival. The aggressor deliberately exhausted the population by leaving it without electricity, water, food, basic medicines, adequate treatment, which was supposed to accelerate the biological extermination of the most numerous ethnic group in this area. Continuously in the period 1992-1995. all civilian facilities, including the military hospital, were shelled, and civilians were targeted and wounded every day. Even the status of the UN safe zone did not help the civilians," pointed out Dr. Džananović.
